Tips for preparing for finals

It’s that time of year again where students all come together for a common cause: finals. With the last weeks of school speedily creeping by, many freshmen, sophomores, and even juniors may be wondering, ”How do I survive finals?” Well, it’s pretty simple. Here are my top five methods for surviving finals.

  1. REVIEW, REVIEW, REVIEW!! I don’t know how much I can stress this, but the key to doing well on your finals is reviewing the materials that you have spent the past eight months complaining over and learning.
  2. Though it may seem obvious, ask your teachers for help. As intimidating as they can seem they truly want the best for you. If you find yourself struggling with a certain topic in class, don’t be afraid to come in during tutor times, or anytime you have to converse with your teacher.
  3. Be organized. During my previous finals weeks I made a planner of my finals schedule and determined what finals I planned to study for on each day. This step is especially helpful for students who have busy schedules, students that aren’t very organized, or students who just like to plan things out.
  4. The fourth and most important step is to make yourself familiar with the type of test you will be taking. If your final will be an essay, then make sure you feel confident with writing an it in the time allotted. Or maybe your teacher is giving you a 200 question multiple choice final. For one, I pray for you; just make sure you are familiar with the the Scantron format.
  5. Finally, the day before your final, rest. Unless you’re the type of person that does well under pressure and enjoys cramming last minute for a test, the best thing to do the day before is a light review of the material and a good night’s sleep. Although I can’t promise an A, speaking from my experience, these 5 steps work 99.9% of the time.
